The house at Kirchenstrasse 16 in Krumbach was the first school house in the town. It was later used as a residential and commercial building.

Building description

The half-timbered house, which stands directly in front of the wall of the former cemetery of St. Michael's Church , was built in 1770, according to an inscription on the house. At its core, however, it is most likely older. It is possible that the building was only given one extension in 1770. The building was expanded around 1803.

history

Until 1816 it was the Krumbach schoolhouse in which the teacher also lived. A first school in the market at that time was mentioned as early as 1530, which was probably already in this place, since at that time the teacher was usually also the sacristan. The ground floor was later used as a business space - in the second half of the 20th century, around the year 2000, the watch shop Uhren Weiß was located there . The upper floor is used as an apartment.

After the building finally became too small for the school in 1816, the school was housed in the former Krumbach Castle until 1838 . When the district court - later renamed the district administration - had its seat there from 1838 , a new schoolhouse was built directly southwest of the castle hill - at the point where the building of the technical college stands today.
