The Church Handbook (formerly Church Handbook for Catholic Germany ) a periodical almanac first published in 1908 .

The original content was the church spatial structure in Germany, Catholic organizations, the charitable and social activities of Catholics in Germany as well as the situation of the Catholic Church abroad, the Catholic pagan mission, the church and church political legislation and the other church statistics. In later years there were also dates of the Catholic in Europe and the rest of the world. It was initially published every two years, later every four years. The first books were published by Herder Verlag Freiburg and edited by the statistician Hermann Anton Krose . From 1915 the official central office for ecclesiastical statistics , founded by resolution of the Fulda Bishops' Conference , became the publisher, but Korse remained the main author. Later, Bachem Verlag initially took over the printing. The German Bishops 'Conference took over the office as a separate department and the secretariat of the German Bishops' Conference became the publisher from 1925. The publisher in Mainz recently published the manual. With his work, Krose wanted to create a Catholic counterpart to the Protestant “ Church Yearbook ” that had been published since 1873

The first manual appeared for the first time in 1908. From 1925 the head of the official central office, Joseph Sauren , was co-editor. From the fourteenth volume onwards, the central office took over sole editing. The current manual is titled Ecclesiastical Manual. Volume XLI: 2012 to 2015
