The Church Street 40 is a Grade II listed building in Tangermünde in Saxony-Anhalt . The Exempel Gaststuben restaurant is located in the building today .

The historic half-timbered house stands immediately west of the Sankt Stephan Church . Southwest of the house starts down to the same through the Elbtor leading Roßfurt .

The building served as a school building in the past. It was also the cantor's house . From 1829 the house was owned by the church. Until about 1919 there was an elementary school run by the cantor on the ground floor .

In the entrance area of ​​the house there is a sandstone floor from around 1750. Today (as of 2011) the interior of the building is set up as a historical school on the ground floor, with the rooms also serving as dining rooms. In a pillar of the classroom there are initials scratched by students in the past. The sexton's apartment is located on the upper floor, which is also used for guest rooms.

The Tangermünder specialty cow tail beer is served in the Exempel restaurant .
