Kirk Tower House

Kirk Tower House , formerly Craig Parish Church , is a former parish church and now residential building in the hamlet of Kirkton of Craig near the Scottish town of Montrose in the Council Area Angus . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

description

In 1796 the construction of the new Kirktons parish church was put out to tender. The competition was won by a design by the Scottish architect Richard Crichton , a former apprentice Robert Adams . The church building, completed in 1799, stands on the western edge of Kirkton of Craig. It is possibly the earliest neo-Gothic church building in Scotland. After the abandonment of Craig Parish Church as a parish church, the building was converted into a residential building.

The brickwork of the neo-Gothic church is made of quarry stone . It was once plastered with Harl . In addition to Gothic elements such as ogive building openings and four-passports, there are also exotic Egyptian capitals on the former main portal . The bell tower on the west side is around 24 meters high.
