Kirkhouse Cottage

The Kirk House Cottage is a cottage on the Scottish Orkney island of Papa Westray . In 2001 the building was added to the Scottish Monuments List in Category C.

description

The building is located in the north of the island on the north-south road around 500 m north of Papa Westray Airport and 1.2 km north of Holland House . The design of the cottage, which dates from the mid to late 19th century, corresponds to the typical architectural style on the Orkney Islands. The one-story building has an elongated floor plan. The masonry is made of quarry stone . The south-facing entrance door is located to the right of the center of the building and is flanked by two lattice windows. Another window can be found on the east side. On the left are two small outbuildings with a small gable-side window. On the west side, a wooden door is let into the gable surface, which originally led into a neighboring building, which has since been torn down. The roofs of the outbuildings are covered with asbestos panels. The gable chimneys are provided with a narrow decorative ribbon. The interior with its tiled floors is comparatively well preserved. The woodwork and box beds are also noteworthy.
