history

Kitchen Cowboys: Thomas Adler, Marianne Wellershoff, Philip Bethge, Tom Ungemach, Rüdiger Hirt and Sandra Wierer (from left to right)

The "Kitchen Cowboys" were founded in 1999 in the vicinity of the Hamburg media scene from the rubble of the band 2 Väter & ein Mann . Started as a cover project for music from the Anglo-American culture, the band increasingly interpreted songs by Tom Waits until 2001 . Singer Marco Evers came very close to the musical role model in expression and charisma, the band, consisting of Katja von Döring (bass), Philip Bethge (accordion) and Thomas Adler (guitars, harmonica), supported him with a very weird sound. Changing drummers accompanied this early epoch, with Igor from Belarus to be highlighted. Occasional pieces of their own that were written by Evers and Bethge have appeared. Bethge also appeared as a singer in concerts. The first CD "So beautiful", released in autumn 2000, contains half of the cover versions and half of its own material.

When Evers and Döring left in the spring of 2001, the band re-founded and gradually expanded the range of instruments. In addition to the founding members Adler and Bethge, who now completely took over the vocals and increasingly swapped the accordion for the piano, Marianne Wellershoff (bass), Tom Ungemach (drums), Rüdiger Hirt (saxophone) and Sönke Hachmann ( Trumpet).

Another turning point occurred in the summer of 2009 when Bethge and later Hachmann left the band. The new band members are Christina Pohl (vocals) and Christoph Hauschild (keyboard). The current program consists of songs composed by Ungemach and written by Wellershoff. The texts are only in German.

Former band members include Sandra Wierer (violin, backing vocals), Klaus Markus (trumpet) and Mick Schreiber and Achim Erz (both drums), the latter now a permanent member of Bernd Begemann's band “Die Befreiung” .

In 2013 the band announced their breakup.
