The Kitty Coleman Beach Provincial Park is a 10-hectare Provincial Park in the Canadian province of British Columbia . It is 8 kilometers north of Courtenay and is a little off Highway 19 (Island Highway) . The park is in the Comox Valley Regional District .
investment
The extremely small and very simply equipped park is located on the Georgia Strait on the east coast of Vancouver Island , south of the mouth of the Oyster River .
The park is a category II protected area ( national park ).
Since it is a class C park , unlike the other provincial parks in British Columbia, it is not managed by the park administration BC Parks , but is managed by a private operator.
history
The park was established in 1944 and was named after Kitty Coleman. She was a member of a local First Nation and left her tribe to marry a white man in the early 20th century. After his later arrest, she lived alone on this beach.
Flora and fauna
In the southern area of the park there is a very old and large Douglas fir . Wild onions also grow in the park.
activities
The park offers beach access and a picnic area. In addition, there are 65 tent sites and very simple sanitary facilities. The park also has a slip ramp for water sports enthusiasts .
