from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Klaipėda University Team Žuvėdra is a Latin formation from Lithuania . It is one of the best in the world and was seven times world and eight times European champion.

The team goes back to a folk dance group founded in a cultural center in Klaipėda in the mid-1960s . In addition to folk dances, Latin American dances were also danced and a Latin formation was founded. Today the Latin formations "Žuvėdra" belong to the faculty of arts at the University of Klaipėda , the dancers are mainly recruited from the university's students.

In 1989 the team first took part in a World Cup of Latin Formations and finished in 7th place. Since 1994 the team has occupied one of the medal positions at the World Championships of Latin Formations without interruption, and since 1995 also at the European Championships. In 1996, the Klaipėda University Team Žuvėdra competed for the first time with two teams at the World and European Championships of Latin Formations.

In 2014, the Klaipėda University Team Žuvėdra no longer competed in international competitions after a change in the university rules of the University of Klaipeda, no longer being able to put together a formation, which largely consisted of university students.

The trainers of the Klaipėda University Team Žuvėdra were Ona Skaistutė-Idzelevičienė and Romaldas Idzelevičius .
