Sound figures (waltz)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Klangfiguren is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 251). The work was performed for the first time on February 4, 1861 in the Sofienbad Hall in Vienna.

Remarks

The waltz was composed and performed on the occasion of the technicians' ball of the students of the Vienna University of Technology. It was also dedicated to these students. The composer has experimented with sounds analogous to physicists and their experiments. The waltz did not become really popular. Perhaps the composer overwhelmed his audience with this work. Strauss experts consider this waltz to be very demanding.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 7 minutes and 56 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
