The Philosophendamm was a stroll loved by Kant , which the city president Theodor Gottlieb von Hippel the Elder had laid out. As a square it led from Philosophendammgasse in the south through Bahnhofswallgasse, past Fort Friedrichsburg , the shipyard and the island of Venice and ended at Klapperwiese. Often covered with water, it simulated a lake. In the 20th century, only a small part of the dam was preserved in Schleusenstrasse and in the facilities at the Südbahnhof .
