Klaus-Dieter Altmeppen

Klaus-Dieter Altmeppen (* 1956 in Münster ) is a German communications scientist and professor of journalism at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt . His main research interests are journalism and journalism research, media management and organization, media economics, communication policy, organizational communication / PR and audience research.

Career

Klaus-Dieter Altmeppen is a trained businessman and did his Abitur on the second educational path. From 1981 to 1986 he studied modern history, journalism and political science in Münster. In 1998 he received his doctorate on the subject of "Editorial offices as coordination centers", and in 2004 he completed his habilitation on "Journalism and the media as organizations. Services, structures and management". He worked as a staff member and assistant at the universities of Münster (1987–1990), Hamburg (1990–1998) and Ilmenau (1998–2007). He held visiting professorships at the Institute for Communication Studies at the University of Salzburg and at the Institute for Mass Communication and Media Research at the University of Zurich.

From 1990 to 1991 Altmeppen headed the advanced qualification "Specialist for Public Relations" in Hamburg, from 1998 to 2002 he was spokesman for the "Journalism and Journalism Research" section of the German Society for Media and Communication Studies (DGPuK) , of which he was chairman from 2010 to 2014. From 2009 to 2011 he was vice dean, from 2011 to 2013 dean of the Faculty of Linguistics and Literature at the KU.

Since 2011 he has been co-editor of the media ethical journal Communicatio Socialis . Since 2016 he has been co-director of the newly founded zem :: dg - Center for Ethics in the Media and the Digital Society .
