Klaus Besser (born April 12, 1960 in Steinhagen ) is a German SPD politician and since 1994 mayor of the East Westphalian community of Steinhagen.

Life

After attending the Steinhagener and Haller Hauptschule and the Höhere Handelsschule in Halle (Westphalia) , Klaus Besser studied from 1977 to 1980 at the University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration in North Rhine-Westphalia in Bielefeld and from 1981 to 1984 at the Administrative Academy of East Westphalia-Lippe in Bielefeld. Until August 31, 1996 he worked as a graduate in administration at the Bielefeld city administration in the Brackwede district office and in the personnel office. On November 2, 1994 he was elected honorary mayor. Since September 1, 1996 he has been the full-time mayor of the Steinhagen community, Gütersloh district . Besser was re-elected in the first ballot in 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014. As the longest-serving mayor in the district, Besser has been the spokesman for the mayors in the Gütersloh district since 2014. On March 16, 2020, Besser announced that he would not run again in the local election on September 13, 2020. His term of office therefore ends on October 31, 2020. Besser is married and has two children from his first marriage.

Political party

Klaus Besser joined the SPD on September 7, 1983 . In 1984 he ran for the first time for the council of the Steinhagen community, of which he has been a member since October 5, 1986. From 1987 to 1989 he was chairman of the culture committee and from 1989 to 1994 parliamentary group chairman. He was a member of the board of the SPD local association Steinhagen from 1989 to 2017.
