Klaus Koch (* 1963 ) is a German medical journalist , author and biologist.

Life

Koch studied biology in Bonn and Cologne and graduated in 1989 with a degree in biology. He then received a scholarship from the Robert Bosch Foundation in their science journalism program. As a result, Koch sat in on several large editorial offices. He then worked as a freelance medical and science journalist, including for the Süddeutsche Zeitung , the Deutsches Ärzteblatt and other publications.

In 2006 he became an employee of the Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG), initially as a senior editor in the management of the IQWiG, then from April 2010 to May 2011 as deputy head of the communication department. Since May 2011 he has been head of the health information department.

In 2007 he received his doctorate with a thesis on methods of early cancer detection at the University of Cologne . He is a member of the extended board of directors of the German Evidence-Based Medicine Network

Prizes and awards

  • 2001 “Medicine in Words” (Prize of the College of Medical Journalists). The prize is endowed with 20,000 euros and is sponsored by Bayer AG.
  • 1997 Journalist Prize from the German Nutrition Society for his article "Fruit instead of pills".
