Klaus Stöhr

Klaus Stöhr (born 1959 in Zerbst ) is a German virologist . He was Head of the Global Influenza Program and SARS Research Coordinator of the WHO .

Life

Stöhr studied epidemiology and veterinary medicine at the University of Leipzig, where he graduated in 1985. At the beginning of 2004 he warned of the H5N1 influenza A virus , the causative agent of the H5N1 bird flu , which could trigger a global flu epidemic .

At the beginning of 2007 he gave up his position at the WHO and switched to vaccine development at the pharmaceutical company Novartis , research location Boston / Cambridge.
