The glue stick is a cylinder filled with glue in a semi-solid form. The contents can be pushed out (and pulled back in) by turning a screw-type mechanism at one end of the pen. At the other end there is typically a screw cap. The adhesive can be applied to sufficiently rough objects (mostly paper) without any additional aids and hardens within several minutes through evaporation.
Glue sticks are usually free from harmful solvents . As ingredients z. B. polyglycosides, polysaccharides and soaps indicated.
The glue stick was invented in 1969 by the Henkel company and was given the brand name Pritt pen . Meanwhile there are also glue sticks from other manufacturers, e.g. B. the HERMA glue stick , the tesa stick or the UHU stic .
Some glue sticks contain color that fades as they harden. This makes wetted areas clearly visible, which makes it easier to apply evenly. Dried glue sticks can usually be made functional again by a water bath lasting several hours.
