The Wasserstern small zoo is a zoo founded and operated by the association of the same name in the Bavarian city of Ingolstadt .
history
In 1908, 24 members founded a department of the association for biological aquarium and terrarium science Wasserstern Augsburg in Ingolstadt after they had examined a number of fish, turtles, lizards and snakes brought from Augsburg. After five years, the group broke away from the parent club. In 1932 a piece of land on the Schutter was acquired and construction of the open-air facility began. The club house was built in 1937.
During the Second World War, the American army shot the alligator Maxl . The first exhibition after the war was shown in 1949. In the following year an aquarium system was built in the basement of the clubhouse , which was torn down again in 1963. In the 1960s, several cages and enclosures for mammals were built south of the Schutter. In 1984 the association received first prize for the redesign of the Schutterufer in the state-wide competition near-natural waters . A new terrarium house was built in the mid-1990s.
