Klimonas
Klimonas is an archaeological site at Ayios Tychonas in the Cypriot district of Limassol , which dates from 9100 to 8600 BC. Was dated. In 2012, Klimonas was considered the oldest Neolithic settlement on the Mediterranean. The main building of the village was a round, partly underground house with a diameter of 10 m. It is interpreted as a kind of community building and shows strong similarities with buildings on the mainland, which are assigned to the late pre-ceramic Neolithic and which date from 9500 to 8500 BC. Were dated. Common provisions were made there and meetings were held.
The residents ate the meat of a small species of wild boar living in Cyprus , which they hunted with the help of dogs. In addition to the dogs, they also brought cats from the mainland.
In 2011 excavations were carried out under the direction of Jean Guilaine from the Collège de France , François Briois from the EHESS and Jean-Denis Vigne from the CNRS- Muséum national d'histoire naturelle .
