history
The village was first mentioned in a document on the Mercy map from 1723 under the name Kakova , when the place belonged to the Werschetz district .
Around 1780, many residents left the village and settled in the area around Alibunar . In the 18th century, Kakova was directly subordinate to the Vienna Court Chamber . In 1855 the domain was bought by the Austro-Hungarian State Railway Company (StEG).
As a curiosity, it should be noted that on May 19, 1858, a meteorite hit Kakova. This was examined by Wilhelm von Haidinger , the director of the geological institute in Vienna, and brought to Vienna. Today the meteorite is in the Natural History Museum Vienna .
After the Austro-Hungarian Compromise (1867), the Banat was annexed to the Kingdom of Hungary within the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary . In the first decade of the 20th century, the law for the Magyarization of place names (Ga. 4/1898) was applied, including the Magyarization of all toponyms on maps , land register extracts and city maps . The official place name was Kákóva . The Hungarian place names remained valid until the administrative reform of 1923 in the Kingdom of Romania , when the Romanian place names were introduced.
The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the Banat being divided into three parts , whereby Cacova fell to the Kingdom of Romania . Until 1964 the place was called Cacova . Since 1964 Grădinari is the official place name.
