Glowes evening
Glowesabend or Glowesowend is the name for St. Nicholas Eve in the Kassel area .
As Glowes (plural Glöwesse ), formerly also Klowes (dialect form of Klaus ), one describes the children disguised as Nikolaus or otherwise , who say sayings at the front doors and in small shops on December 6th after dark at the front doors and in small shops to offer sweets attain ( Heischebrauch ) . In the region south around Kassel, the spelling also changes to Klobes or Clobes .

In the North Hessian dialects the word Glowes or Gloweskopp is also used as a swear word for someone who is not to be taken seriously.
