Knocking screen in action

A pounding screen is an aid used in collecting arthropods , mainly flightless insects or arachnids .

construction

There are several types of tapping screens. Simple specimens consist of a light piece of fabric stretched over a round or square frame, often in the shape of an upturned umbrella . There are versions with and without a handle, some versions have a container in the middle of the umbrella to catch the animals. The shape of the umbrella can vary from relatively flat to strongly funnel-shaped.

application

The tapping screen is used to collect spiders and insects, especially on shrubs and smaller trees. The umbrella is placed under the corresponding tree or bush and then hit ( tapped ) on the branch above the umbrella with a stick or something similar . The falling animals end up on the screen or in the catching vessel and can then be collected.
