history

When around 1900 the monasteries in France threatened to be dissolved by the law separating church and state , the Lyon-Vaise monastery emigrated to Canada in 1904 and founded Notre-Dame de l'Assomption ( Assumption of Mary) monastery in Rogersville , three kilometers away from the Trappist monastery of Calvaire , founded in 1902 , whose community had prepared the buildings for the nuns. After the church was built in 1922, the monastery was raised to the rank of abbey in 1928 . The current convent building was built in 1950. In 1970 a guest house was added. The nuns live for the most part from the production of hosts .
