history

When around 1900 the monasteries in France threatened to be dissolved by the law separating church and state , Bonnecombe Monastery founded Notre-Dame du Calvaire Monastery in Rogersville as a refuge in 1902 , which (with the support of Marcel-François Richard ) was approved by the Pope in 1904 Priory was raised (first prior choice not until 1930) and in 1960 received the rank of abbey . The monks, who had to fight several fire disasters between 1922 and 1969, produced building blocks from their own quarry until 1972. From 1963 they switched to chicken breeding. In 1966 they built a guest house.

Three kilometers away from the monastery of Calvaire, the Assomption monastery was built in 1904 with the help of the monks for the Trappist women expelled from the Lyon-Vaise monastery .
