The Bonnecombe Monastery (Bona Cumba; Notre-Dame de Bonnecombe) - not to be confused with the Bonnecombe nunnery - is a former Cistercian abbey in the Aveyron department , Occitania region in France . The monastery is located in the municipality of Comps-la-Grand-Ville about 15 km south of Rodez in the valley of the Viaur in the forest of Brengayrenc.

history

The monastery was founded in 1166 or 1167 as the daughter of Candeil Monastery by Raymond V , Count of Toulouse and Rodez, and Bishop Hugo von Rodez and thus belonged to the filiation of Clairvaux Primary Abbey . It lived in prosperity until 1470 and had extensive estates in eastern Rouergue and northern Albigeois , namely fourteen grangien , including the grangien of Lasserre-Bonnefon, Ruffepeyre, Bougaunes Is, Bar, Varcelles, Bernac Puechmaynade, Saint-Félix, and Pousthorny as well as that Saint-Hilaire Priory . The monastery was fortified during the Hundred Years War . Already in 1470 it fell into the Kommende , one of the commanders abbots was the later Pope Innocent VIII. During the French Revolution , the monastery, still inhabited by nine monks, came to an end in 1790 and fell into disrepair. However, it was repopulated in 1876 by Trappists from the Aiguebelle monastery , who restored the monastery , which was elevated to an abbey again in 1895, from 1889 and remained there until 1965. This was followed by various religious and social uses, until the Communauté de l'Arche (from Lanza del Vasto ) moved into the monastery in 1980 . In 1998 the charismatic Beatitudes community moved into the monastery.
