Albigeois
Albigeois is a geographical name that refers to both a region and population groups.
- The inhabitants of the city of Albi are called Albigeois .
- At the same time, it is one of the common terms in France for the “Albigensians” or Cathars , whose destruction went down in history as the Albigensian Crusade ( Croisade des Albigeois ).
- From the early Middle Ages to modern times, Albigeois referred to the area that stretched east of Toulouse between the River Viaur in the north, Lacaune and Saint-Amans-Soult in the east, and Sorèze in the south, and thus covered the dioceses of Albi and Castres , and thus largely corresponds to today's Département Tarn . Until the 16th century, the Albigeois was divided into the Vice- County Albi , the Vice- County Ambialet and the County of Castres . It later became part of the Languedoc Province , bordering Rouergue , Quercy , Armagnac and Haut-Languedoc .
