Bonnecombe Monastery

The Candeil Monastery (Candelium) is a former Cistercian abbey in the Tarn department , Occitania region in France . The monastery is located in the municipality of Labessière-Candeil around 21 km southwest of Albi and 6 km north of Graulhet .

history

The monastery was founded in 1150 or 1152 as a daughter of the Grandselve monastery and thus belonged to the filiation of the Clairvaux Primary Abbey . In 1166 he founded the Bonnecombe Monastery . The monastery had nine grangs and founded four bastides . A cross (croix à main; late 14th century) with several cross particles comes from the monastery. It came to an end during the French Revolution in 1791.

Buildings and plant

The summer residence of the commander's abbots has been preserved. The castle of Lézignac belonged to the monastery. The church in Gaillac has a bell cast in 1499 from the monastery.
