Graulhet is a French commune with 12,618 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Tarn department in the Occitanie region . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Castres and is the capital of the canton of the same name . The inhabitants call themselves Graulhetois or Occitan Graulhetous .
geography
Graulhet lies on the Dadou , a tributary of the Agout . The municipality is located about 22 km southwest of Albi and about 45 km east-northeast of Toulouse . North-west of the municipality is the Aérodrome de Graulhet - Montdragon .
history
961 the place was as Granolheto with the establishment of the castrum by Raimund I. mentioned. But settlement remains can be dated to between 500 and 100 BC. A Gallo-Roman oppidum also shows a Roman settlement. At the beginning of the thirteenth century, the Albigensian Crusade led to the persecution of the Cathars here . For a long time Graulhet was a tanner's location and center of the leather goods industry.
