Aussillon is a French commune with 5892 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Tarn department in the Occitanie region (previously Midi-Pyrénées ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Castres and is located in the canton of Mazamet-1 (previously Mazamet-Sud-Ouest ). The inhabitants call themselves Aussillonnais .

geography

Aussillon is located on the northern foothills of the Montagne Noire (Eng. "Black Mountains") west of Mazamet and about 15 kilometers southeast of Castres . The municipality is bordered to the north by the Thoré river .
