Montgey ( Occitan : Montjèi ) is a French commune with 290 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Tarn department in the Occitania region (previously Midi-Pyrénées ). It belongs to the Arrondissement Castres and the canton Lavaur-Cocagne (previously canton Cuq-Toulza ).

geography

Montgey is located about 26 kilometers west-southwest of Castres in northern Lauragais am Sor , which borders the municipality in the east. Montgey is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Aguts in the north and north-west, Puylaurens in the north-east, Poudis in the east and north-east, Garrevaques in the east and south-east, Revel in the south and south-east, Nogaret in the south and Puéchoursi in the west.

history

As part of the Albigensian Crusade in April 1211 at the Battle of Montgey, the crusader troops (probably mainly Germans and Frisians) were almost completely wiped out by the host of Count Raimund Rogers von Foix, the patron of the Cathars.
