It belongs to the Arrondissement of Castres and the canton of Les Hautes Terres d'Oc . "Les Escrousols" (in Occitan "Los Escrosòls") is the name given to the residents.

Escroux is located about 45 kilometers southeast of Albi on the border with the neighboring Aveyron department . The municipality is located in the Haut-Languedoc Regional Nature Park . The main town is at about 730 m. ü. M.
