Ambres is a southern French municipality with 980 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Tarn department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Castres and the canton of Les Portes du Tarn (until 2015: canton of Lavaur ). The inhabitants are called ambergris .

location

Ambres lies on the orographic right, i.e. H. eastern, river side of the Agout in a river bend that forms the southern boundary of the municipality. The northern municipal boundary forms the Dadou . Ambres is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Giroussens in the north and north-west, Saint-Gauzens in the east, Fiac in the south-east, Labastide-Saint-Georges in the south, Lavaur in the south and south-west and Saint-Jean-de-Rives in the west and north-west.
