Guitalens-L'Albarède is a French commune with 866 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Tarn department in the Occitania region . It was created in 2007 through the merger of the municipalities of Guitalens and Lalbarède .

geography

The municipality is located 16 kilometers northwest of Castres on the Agout River . Lalbarède is on the right side of the river, Guitalens on the left.

history

The river Agout apparently forms the basis for the settlement of the area. The river has been passable since the Neolithic Age. In the Middle Ages, a castle made it possible to monitor the river crossing. There then began an increased settlement. The bridge, built in 1831, has become a symbol of the unity of the village since the two communities came together in 2007. Thanks to the strong will of the two mayors and municipal councils, the two municipalities were able to merge after a referendum.
