Bubenkirche monastery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bubenkirche Monastery is a submerged monastery in today's town of Bad Berleburg in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

location

The monastery was northeast of Wunderthausen on the stream of the same name. The settlement still exists under the field name "Im Nonnenwinkel".

history

There is no first documentary mention. The current hall name suggests a nunnery. In 1394 Gerlach von Diedenshausen transferred the “waltgelt zu Bubinkirchen” to the Lords of Viermünden . In 1560 it was mentioned for the last time in the “Wunderthäuser argument” as a “desolate monastery”.

According to the remains of the building, it was a rather small monastery. The ground plan of the main building is only about 25 by 20 meters.
