Lešok Monastery
Lešok Monastery is a Macedonian Orthodox monastery in North Macedonia . It is about 8 km outside the city of Tetovo near the border with Kosovo .
The monastery complex includes two churches dedicated to St. Athanasius and the Virgin Mary . The Church of the Virgin Mary was built in 1326 in the Byzantine style . Many original parts of the marble furnishings of the church are now in the Tetovo Museum. In the 19th century the monastery tradition was revived and Lešok Monastery developed into a cultural center.
The Church of St. Athanasius was built next to the Church of the Virgin Mary in 1924. The grave of the Macedonian scholar Kiril Peitschinowitsch (* 1770, † 1865) is located on the monastery grounds . In his honor, an international translation meeting takes place regularly in Lešok.
Today the restored bedrooms of the monastery are used for tourism.
