St. Wolfgang Monastery (Neuburg an der Donau)
The monastery Sankt Wolfgang is a former monastery of the merciful brothers in Neuburg an der Donau in Bavaria in the diocese of Augsburg .
history
The monastery, consecrated to St. Wolfgang , was founded in 1623 by Duke Wolfgang Wilhelm von Pfalz-Neuburg . The Nursing Order of the Brothers of Mercy, which came from Spain, established its first German branch here. In 1806 the monastery was placed under secular supervision and the monastery pharmacy was declared a public pharmacy. In 1831 King Ludwig I of Bavaria officially decreed the continued existence of the monastery, which was later expanded and modernized. In 1980 it was dissolved. The Geriatric Center Neuburg was built on the former monastery grounds in 1997.
