Klosterhof is a district of the municipality of Wald in the Ostallgäu district , which was formerly owned by the St. Mang monastery in Füssen .

history

The monastery had a small administrative center in the hamlet of Klosterhof, which was first mentioned in a document in the 15th century. In 1429 the farm was called "zu den Vögten", and in 1490 an "Ulrich Vogt zu Closterhof" was named. Later the property was divided into several farms, but the entire hamlet kept the name Klosterhof.

Chapel of the Marriage of the Virgin

In 1698 the chapel of Klosterhof was built. It was consecrated in honor of the " Marriage of the Virgin ". A stately linden tree stands next to the church; there used to be several. This gave the chapel its popular name: "Maria under the lime trees", and many pilgrims came to the "Linden Mother of God".

The chapel is about 8 meters long and 5 meters wide, the tower measures 15.5 meters. Two bells from 1798 and 1828 still ring for prayer today.

The altar consists of three shell niches.

The middle, large niche forms the main part of the altar. The design is dated differently (approx. 1690/1760). The main character of the altar, a Madonna with the child, appears very expressive and noble, almost courtly. The artist is unknown. The pilgrim's request can be read in medallions:

"Maria under the linden trees - let us find consolation and grace."

In the small side niches on the left are St. Joseph and on the right St. Antony of Padua can be seen with the baby Jesus. They come from the Füssen baroque sculptor Hans Adam Bayrhoff.
