The monastery church Gleiß is in the village of Gleiß in the market town of Sonntagberg in the district of Amstetten in Lower Austria . The monastery church of the Sisters of the Divine Redeemer , consecrated to the patronage of the Sacred Heart of Jesus , belongs to the dean's office Waidhofen an der Ybbs in the diocese of St. Pölten . The church with the monastery is under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

The monastery of the Sisters of the Divine Redeemer was founded in 1895 with Father Pius Strasser. The monastery church was built in 1904/1905 according to the plans of Father Benedikt Hager with the builder Alois Stättermayr. 1982 was a restoration.

From 1932 it belonged to the parish of Kematen-Gleiß .

architecture

The basilica shows itself in neo-renaissance forms. The strictly structured church building shows on the western front with a banded ground floor and colossal pilasters and with pilaster strips. The facade tower has a constricted four-part hood. The recessed side aisles with arched windows have a flat monopitch roof. The apse shows no division.

The interior of the church appears as a pillar basilica under a flat wooden coffered ceiling. The triumphal arch to the apse is rounded. The just closed side aisles are opened with six arched arcades to the central nave with wall pilasters. There is a gallery with a balustrade barrier.

There is a decorative wall painting and ceiling painting, in picture fields on both floors of the aisles, Infant Jesus, Jesus with children, Jesus as a gardener, Jesus carries his cross, Christ on the Mount of Olives, Jesus at work as a carpenter, Joseph's dream, Holy Family, Joseph's death , Mary, Visitation of the Virgin Mary, Flight into Egypt.

The mosaic Heart of Jesus with God the Father, angels, St. Augustine, Margareta Maria Alacoque , Johann Berchmans , Aloysius, Alfons Maria von Liguori , Theresia von Avila, Gertrud the Great , Apostles Johannes, Leopold and Clemens Maria Hofbauer in the apse curvature was created by H. Kastner.

Furnishing

The facility was built from 1905 to 1912.

The organ was built by Johann Lachmayr (1910).
