Klunkhardshof
The Klunkhardshof is one of the oldest buildings in Rüdesheim am Rhein . The large late medieval half-timbered house was built in the middle of the 15th century (probable, dendrochronologically determined start of construction: 1453).
The Klunkhard family was a respected and obviously wealthy middle-class family, from which a number of church dignitaries emerged, including an abbot of the Eberbach monastery . The family name later gave its name to the half-timbered house, which was previously called "Haus zum Loch" because of the passage at ground level.
The Dries family, who acquired the building in 1906 and who own it to this day, exposed the half-timbering, which was plastered over in the mid-19th century, in 1912, thus restoring the original front view.
