Johann Gürtler

Johann Gürtler (born September 16, 1868 in Grein, Upper Austria ; † September 19, 1936 there ) was a master butcher and politician .

Life

As the son of a Greiner master butcher and inn owner, Gürtler also learned the butcher's trade and returned to his middle-class profession after completing his military service. Gürtler was the imperial purveyor to the court until 1918 . For 40 years he was director and 30 years director of the Greiner Sparkasse, as well as a member of the district economic council and the state commission for tourism. He was married and had two sons and a daughter.

Gürtler was Mayor of Grein between 1897 and 1934 and did a lot for his hometown during this time. Among other things, he endeavored to build the community school and the design of the care home, to electrify and build the sewer system, to build the new Donaukai facilities and to continue building the Mauthausen - Krems railway line.

Between 1919 and 1934 Gürtler was a member of the National Council for the Christian Social Party . As a speaker, he was less prominent, but often intervened on behalf of individual citizens. Within the Christian Socials he belonged more to the liberal wing.
