Mammillaria guelzowiana is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the German cactus collector Robert Gülzow from Berlin.
description
Mammillaria guelzowiana initially grows individually and later forms groups. The spherical shoots have a sunken apex. They reach heights of up to 7 centimeters and diameters of 4 to 10 centimeters. The soft fleshy warts are conical to cylindrical. They do not contain milk juice . The axillae are bare. The 1 to 6 slender, needle-like, reddish brown to yellowish central spines are 8 to 25 millimeters long. One of them is hooked. The hair-like white radial spines 60 to 80 are twisted and up to 15 millimeters long.
The bell- to funnel-shaped flowers are more or less bright purple, up to 4 centimeters long and reach a diameter of 7 centimeters. The almost spherical, light red or yellowish white fruits are up to 8 millimeters long.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Mammillaria guelzowiana is common in the Mexican state of Durango .
It was first described in 1928 by Erich Werdermann .

Krainzia guelzowiana (Werderm.) Backeb. (1951), Phellosperma guelzowiana (Werderm.) Buxb. (1951), Bartschella guelzowiana (Werderm.) Doweld (2000) and Mammillaria guelzowiana var. Robustior R.Wolf (1986).
Mammillaria guelzowiana was listed on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species from 2002 as " Critically Endangered (CR) ". H. critically endangered, classified. In 2013 it was named “ Least Concern (LC) ”. H. listed as not endangered.
