Nibble

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nibbling is a Westphalian specialty. Farmer mares (sometimes also rolls) are broken into coarse pieces and dried in the oven. These dried pieces of bread are then eaten with milk, coffee or coffee with milk. Bakeries in the Westphalian region (especially in and around Münster ) offer this specialty.

The specialty was originally developed because the mares, which only have a limited shelf life as yeast pastries, used to be produced in large quantities. Excess mares were roasted and thus preserved. Later, if necessary, the mares were softened with milk or other liquids and could be enjoyed again.

The Münster carnival association "Narrenzunft vom Zwinger" founded the "Knabbelorden" in 1963, with which personalities are honored who have rendered outstanding services to Münster or the Münsterland. It is considered to be one of the oldest carnival medals of the Münster Carnival and is presented to the “KG Narrenzunft vom Zwinger” by the Prince Carnival of the City of Münster at a carnival meeting.
