The Kneuterdijk is a street in the heart of The Hague . The road takes its name from a hill on the Hague Brook and "Kneuter" ( German  Linnet ). The Kneuterdijk is known for its inner-city palaces and beautiful houses.

Various famous Dutch statesmen lived on Kneuterdijk, such as Jacob Cats , Johan van Oldenbarnevelt and members of the De Witt family . The former Palais Kneuterdijk is located on the Kneuterdijk; there also lived Jacob van Wassenaer Obdam II (1645-1714) and later King William II and his wife Anna Pavlovna . In number 8 in the house of Gijsbert Karel van Hogendorp , the ministers and members of the old government were convened on November 18, 1813 to form a transitional government immediately until the Prince of Orange returned from England.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Kneuterdijk became the permanent seat of some banks such as the Dutch Trading Company and the AMRO Bank . In the former building of the Dutch trading company, the Council for Justice ( Raad voor de Rechtsspraak in Dutch ) is now housed. The Raad van State (German Council of State ) and the former Dutch bank Landry & van Till can also be found on Kneuterdijk .
