The family knob was a Bernese Burger family that since about 1500 Burger law of the city of Bern possessed and the guild for Ethiopians belonged. The Knopf were mainly tailors and theologians. Daniel Knopf (1666–1738) was an avowed Pietist and was one of the main actors in the Bernese banking crisis of 1720 . With Daniel Knopf, the line died out in the male line in 1738.
