Knut Schoch
Knut Schoch (born before 1970) is a German oratorio and opera singer (tenor).
Life
Knut Schoch studied singing in Hamburg with Wilfried Jochens and Alan Speer , and then took part in a number of master classes. His repertoire ranges from medieval works to world premieres of contemporary pieces. He also took on the tenor part in numerous oratorios, chamber music, songs and appeared in baroque and classical opera performances.
Schoch specializes in historical performance practice of music before 1800, especially the oratorios by Georg Friedrich Handel and Johann Sebastian Bach's Passions , in which he sings the roles of the evangelist. Schoch is a sought-after soloist at home and abroad and is regularly engaged at leading festivals such as the Fête d'Automne in Paris, the Göttingen Handel Festival and the Schwetzingen Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and the Wiener Festwochen . He has worked with many ensembles, such as the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra , the Musica Fiata Köln, the Nederlandse Bachvereniging and the Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble, and with conductors of the rank of Thomas Hengelbrock , Ton Koopman and Sigiswald Kuijken .
Schoch's awards include those from 1995 in Masefield (scholarship) and first prize at the 1999 International Musica Antiqua Competition in Bruges.
In 1993 Schoch was appointed visiting professor for historical performance practice at the Hamburg Conservatory, and in 1999 he became a professor at the Hamburg Academy of Music.
