Kobo Deluxe is a free computer game that was created by David Olufsen on the code base of Akira Higuchi's game XKobo . It is a scrolling 2D space shooter in which the player has to destroy enemy alien space bases with his spaceship . The game is now available for various architectures and operating systems and has reached a stable level of development. The author distributes the game under the GNU GPL , whereby the game engine is licensed under LGPL .
control
The controls of the game are based on relevant arcade machines. The player controls a spaceship with the arrow keys , which is located in the middle of the screen . The player can fire simultaneously forwards and backwards with the Altbutton. Pressing the spacebar once pauses the game, and pressing it again continues the battle. When moving, the image section is shifted so that the spaceship is always in the center.
Game flow
The player is in open space . Objects approaching him from all sides that could damage his ship, including asteroids, which can only cause damage if they collide , but also alien spaceships and smaller fighter planes that open fire on the player's spaceship. On a small overview map on the right edge of the screen, the player can see his own position in the surrounding space. In addition, huge labyrinth-shaped alien space stations are drawn on this map , which are made up of peripheral blue spheres, impermeable walls and an orange sphere in the middle. The aim of the game is to destroy all alien space stations by first shooting a few blue balls and then destroying the center of the base, the big yellow ball too. Has a level been successfully completed, i. H. All enemy space stations are destroyed and the next stage of the game begins automatically, with a five-second interruption.
difficulty
Before starting the game, the player can choose between several levels of difficulty, which range from "Newbie" to "God" and which in some cases significantly influence the gameplay . The “newbie” has a sidebar with life energy, which is reduced in the event of an enemy hit. The player's spaceship can take several hits before it is destroyed. Furthermore, the player fires several cannons forwards and backwards, which greatly increases the probability of hits. A “God” player's ship is not only completely destroyed by every hit, it also only fires one cannon each forwards and backwards. In addition to the differences in your own spaceship, both the number and the firepower of the enemy spaceships with a higher level of difficulty increase significantly. The opponents have an enormous selection of weapon systems, ranging from simple fire with hard bullets to guided missiles and energy rings.
