Koga (family)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Koga family ( Japanese 久 我 家 , Koga-ke ) is a noble family derived from Minamoto no Masazane and thus forms a branch of the Murakami Genji .

The Koga were one of the families of the Kuge (the court nobility) of Japan and attained the rank of Seigake . During the Meiji Restoration , the head of the family was awarded the title of margrave and he was thus part of the Kazoku , the lesser hereditary nobility in which the Kuge and Daimyō were absorbed.

The Koga Kamon is a stylized autumn gentian species ( Gentiana scabra var. Buergeri ).

The famous Japanese actress Kuga Yoshiko (born as Koga Haruko), a descendant of the family, was disinherited by her grandfather because of her career choice, but was later taken back into the family.
