Kolbe (hairstyle)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kolbe was a male hairstyle customary at the beginning of the 16th century , which replaced the long flowing head hair and beardlessness common at the end of the Middle Ages .

The hair was combed down on all sides and clipped straight to reveal or just cover the ears and the nape of the neck. Likewise, one wore a full beard , but cut it off in a straight line directly under the chin, so that the head no longer appeared long, but round like a bulb at the end of a club.

Kolbe was used to designate both the head in and of itself, but also the hair alone, then especially the smoothly clipped head and later even the wig .
