The Kolinbrunnen , also known as the Ochsenbrunnen , is located in the Swiss city of Zug and has given its name to a square there (Kolinplatz).
statue
The fountain is elevated by a statue of a standard bearer, whose identification gave rise to various interpretations, but in which one generally sees Wolfgang Kolin today. In the 16th century he was the builder of the neighboring inn with the shield of the ox, which closes this place to the north. Hence the name Ochsenbrunnen, which is also used here and there.
history
Originally this place was called Lindenplatz. In 1540 the city council decided to set up a fountain here. This fountain was built in 1541 with an octagonal trough and was initially called Lindenbrunnen . In the center rises a column with a leaf capital bearing the year 1541. The standard bearer holds the shield and the standard of Zug. A total renovation took place in 1747. The column was renewed in 1891, the statue was restored several times and each time it was newly painted. The last renovation took place in 1981. The fountain is classified as a monument of regional importance.
