Colonnade (Versailles)
The colonnade is a bosket in the garden of the Palace of Versailles in France . It was built in 1685 by Jules Hardouin-Mansart in place of an older bosket by André Le Nôtre , the so-called source grove .
The actual colonnade within the bosquet is a circular structure 32 meters in diameter. It is formed by 32 white and pink column positions connected by arcades , under which there are 32 fountains. The center of the bosquet is a group of sculptures depicting the kidnapping of Proserpine by Pluto . The colonnade is one of the most elaborate bosquets in the Versailles palace gardens. Like all boskette, it originally served as an open-air salon where concerts and other performances were held.
