Komenda (Ghana)

Komenda is located in the Central Region of Ghana directly on the Atlantic Ocean , the area is characterized by a tropical, humid and hot climate. The small town with about 5,000 inhabitants, shaped by fishing , is the economic and educational center of the rural area. (approx. 30,000 PE in the catchment area)

The supply in the village itself meets the basic needs (there is a post office, a police station, a local administration and a market), the selection of fruit and vegetables is limited and depends on the season.

The regional capital Cape Coast with the most tourists after the capital Accra is easy to reach in a good half an hour and offers a comprehensive selection of food and other consumer goods.

The supply of electricity is generally reliable, but interruptions must be expected, bottlenecks in the water supply can be bridged by storing supplies in tanks.

The health care in the local hospital is sufficient for basic care, while in Cape Coast there is a regional hospital with comprehensive medical care.

In Komenda there is Fort Vredenburg , built by the Dutch in 1659 (today mostly called Komenda Castle), as well as the remains of the British Fort Komenda (built 1682).
