The Communist Party of India (Maoist) ( CPI (Maoist) , "Communist Party of India (Maoists)") is a Maoist party in India . The party was created in 2004 through the merger of the CPI (ML) People's War Group and the Maoist Communist Center of India. On May 1, 2014, the CPI (ML) Naxalibari also joined the CPI (Maoist). The party proclaims as its goal the destruction of the Indian state machine, which is described as being ruled by anti-grassroots classes, and the establishment of a People's Republic of India based on the Maoist model through a popular uprising or armed struggle. The CPI (Maoist) also does not take part in elections. The Indian government classifies the CPI (Maoist) as a terrorist organization. The party was banned as an organization on June 22, 2009.

According to an analysis by the Council on Foreign Relations , the CPI (Maoist) committed a total of 371 acts of terrorism in 2011, making it the world's most active terrorist organization.
